Following the killing of George Floyd in May 2020 and the circulation of the video that captured this moment, mass ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests were organised to condemn and challenge police brutality and racism across the world. The BME Staff Network organised a meeting to discuss the effects of this and many conversations were had amongst participants to share their views.

At the start of a meeting, a poll was conducted asking participants if they thought that Racism was an issue in the UK. Most attendees voted that it was not an issue, whilst some voted that it was. After some discussion, a video was shared that was being circulated via Social Media following Coventry City’s Football Club promotion celebrations. The video showed two young men being attacked and chased by a mass group of football fans. By the end of the meeting, when the same poll was conducted, more participants agreed that racism was indeed an issue within the UK.
